Ram boys finish hoops regular season wityh 5-14 record

The Greene County boys’ basketball team split in action last week, losing to Southeast Valley 69-48 and defeating Saydel 75-48. The Rams had another run at SEV Tuesday in the first round of the Class 2A substate tournament. The game was postponed from Monday due to extremely cold weather. 

Greene County ended the regular season with an overall record of 5-14. They were fifth in the Heart of Iowa Conference standings at 3-7. Roland-Story was HOIC champions with a record of 10-1.

Zach Goff is the only senior on the roster. The Rams will look to improve with more experience next season.

SEV 69 ~ Rams 48

Greene County was up 10-8 in the first quarter before Southeast Valley went on a huge 24-0 scoring run to lead 37-15 at the break. The Jaguars kept the heat on in the third quarter, outscoring the Rams 18-10 for a 55-25 tally. GC came alive in the final stanza with 23 points, but the margin was too wide. SEV took the victory 69-48.

Richard Daugherty was high scorer for the Rams with 10 points. Jesse Miller added eight, Bryce Stalder seven and Caden Telleen and Zach Goff each with five. Daugherty collected seven rebounds and Goff secured six. Patrick Daugherty dished three assists and Stalder snatched four steals.Greene County made 18/49 field goals, including 5/17 three-pointers, for 37 percent. SEV hit 24/51 with 8/16 beyond the arc for 47 percent. They had 13 free throws while the Rams made seven. GC was outrebounded 33-26. Both teams committed 21 turnovers.

Rams 75 ~ Saydel 48

In one of their largest offensive performances of the season, Greene County defeated Saydel 75-48. The Rams took a 17-12 first quarter lead and by halftime held a commanding 40-22 advantage. GC built their lead to 24 points at the end of the third quarter, 61-37 and went on to win 75-48.

Three Rams hit double figures as Stalder fired 26 points, Miller 12 and Richard Daugherty 11. Max Riley chipped in eight and Patrick Daugherty, six. Richard Daugherty grabbed eight boards, Miller had five and Goff and Jackson Morton had four apiece.

The Rams made 29/62 from the field for 47 percent. That included 13/30 behind the arc with four by Stalder and three from Richard Daugherty. Saydel hit 18/47 for 38 percent with only two three-pointers. They sank 10 free throws. GC topped the Eagles in rebounding 33-28.
